Someone worked well with the grains of the wood to create these.
They're gorgeous!

Hi Mel-I LOVE these carvings at the entrance to a really old church at the lychgate-St Michael's-Mickelham Surrey.They are there for ever and,as you say, beautifully carved.

Thanks for your comments on my blog :) For a while my father was assistant organist at Mickelham Church. I'm ashamed to say now, I never visited the church or heard him play there. I've just been looking at photos of the church - it looks lovely. Thank you for showing me. :)

WOW!Had two great friends who were organists-one trained at Sacre Coeur in Paris-a great skill to be able to play an organ and such wonderful music; I was lucky enough to 'turn' the music for recitals.Mickelham is just a lovely little place with a great pub as well.

Good to see you here and I hope that you're feeling a lot better. :)
