A broken metronome and Rachmaninoff's 2nd
So, if everything arrived in one piece except for the metronome, Jon's move to Bangladesh could be considered a success?
Visions of him hitting the ivories with a rhythm from the internet to keep him on track make me smile!
Talking to Jan this morning brought it all back. Signing off with a happy heart to discover Rachmaniniff's 2nd symphony swooping and diving forth from Radio 3 was such a perfect sign. How does the music become part of one's psyche?
I have to thank two David's and a Richard, the RFH and Eltham library where the young chap on duty in the then 'record lending' section recognised my thirst for all the best music NOW and gladly let me borrow as many sets and collections of 'complete works' that I could carry.
Jan taking my money from the RFH and squirelling it away in a tin until I had saved enough for a portable record player with detachable lid speakers; bliss!
Facing the Hautes-Pyrénées or 'pair of knees' Bob would have said-music abounding and a good book. Perfectamundo.
